Wing Kommodore Walter Grasemann, Gerhard Barkhorn and Erich Hartmann received the newly donated arm straps on behalf of their wings

21.04.1961 the 43rd anniversary of Manfred von Richthofen's death, Federal President Heinrich Lübke gave JG 71 the name "Richthofen". Lieutenant General Josef Kammhuber, Inspector of the Air Force, 
pinned the first arm straps to the uniform of the Kommodore, Lieutenant Colonel Erich Hartmann. At the same time, Fighter Bomber Wing 31 (JaboG 31) in Nörvenich (represented by Kommodore Colonel Gerhard Barkhorn) 
was given the name "Boelcke" and Reconnaissance Wing 51 (AG 51) in Ingolstadt (represented by Kommodore Lieutenant Colonel Walter Grasemann) was given the name "Immelmann".
